Coach Kill Fund

Coach Kill Fund

At the end of the 2005 football season, Jerry Kill, former SIU head football coach had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on his kidney. During his cancer treatment he befriended other people from Southern Illinois who were going through treatment as well. Kill found many of them did not have the same resources that he was "fortunate to be blessed with." As a result of his personal experience with cancer, Coach Jerry Kill and his wife Rebecca, worked to establish a fund that would financially assist families and individuals coping with cancer. Working with the SIH foundation – the charitable arm of Southern Illinois Healthcare, the Coach Kill Fund was created.

The Coach Kill Fund has a mission of improving the quality of life for individuals and families facing a financial burden resulting from the medical treatment of cancer. Through this fund we are striving to lessen the financial burden on families who are dealing with this serious illness.

We at Liberty Wealth Management are committed to support the Coach Kill Fund and encourage others to do the same. We have established the Liberty Health and Wealth 5K Run and Walk, where all proceeds go to the Coach Kill Fund. To date, the fund has helped over 1,200 individuals with a total of $550,000 in financial assistance. Through the efforts of Liberty Wealth Management, they have raised over $23,500 and have helped over 45 people. Find out more information about the annual Liberty Wealth & Health 5k Run/Walk.

Below are statements from those who have benefited from the Coach Kill Fund:

“There are no words to express my gratitude for the support that will play such an important role in my care and ultimately my survival. I will be using travel voucher you provided to help with my transportation expenses that I incur during my chemo treatments at the SIH Cancer Institute in Carterville, IL. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. It is appreciated more that you’ll ever know.”

“Thank you very much for the financial support to help me. More than the money, I want to say thank you for listening to me that morning, I needed someone to care and you did. God bless and thank you again from the bottom of my heart.”
